Responsibilities
- Monitoring: The Unit is collating material provided
by public authorities on their implementation of the Act. This
information is to be submitted to the Minister of Government responsible
for Information and will form the basis of the annual report that
must be laid before Parliament. The first of these reports is
due in early 2002.
- Support to Public Authorities: The Unit also provides
assistance to authorities in understanding and putting in place
arrangements for their compliance with the FOIA through:
- Legal advice
- Training seminars
- Sensitisation sessions
- Public Awareness: Our work in this area focuses on educating
about the rights and responsibilities of members of the
public under the FOIA.
We invite you to contact the Unit with your comments and queries
about the Act.
If you have made an FOIA Request for Access to Official Document(s),
we would be particularly interested in your assessment of this experience
– including comments on the efficiency with which your request was
handled.
The Unit welcomes all feedback on the FOIA and our role in its
implementation.
